ROG Xbox Ally X20 Brings OLED Display and AR Glasses Bundle
Asus introduced the ROG Xbox Ally X20 with a 7.4-inch OLED display, Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip and ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 bundle.
Asus has introduced the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a new Windows-based gaming handheld with a larger OLED display, updated controls and a bundled AR glasses package. The device is planned for release in the second half of 2026, but Asus has not announced a price.
The new model is positioned as an upgraded version of the company’s Xbox-branded handheld. Although it carries Xbox branding, it is not a small Xbox console. It is a portable Windows PC designed for handheld gaming.
ROG Xbox Ally X20 Features
The main hardware change is a 7.4-inch OLED Nebula HDR display, replacing the previous 7-inch IPS screen. The panel keeps a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and supports 120 Hz refresh rate, FreeSync Premium Pro, Dolby Vision and HDR.
Asus says the display can reach peak brightness of up to 1,400 nits. The variable refresh rate can also drop to 30 Hz, which may help demanding games appear smoother when performance changes during play.
Inside, the ROG Xbox Ally X20 uses AMD’s Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme platform. It also includes 24 GB of LPDDR5X memory at 8,000 MT/s and a 1 TB SSD.
Asus is presenting the device as an AI-capable gaming handheld. One of the supported features is Auto SR upscaling, which is designed to improve image quality with AI-assisted processing.
Updated Controls and Storage
Asus has also changed the control layout. The previous Library button has been removed and replaced by a new Action button for screenshots and video recording.
The handheld adds drift-resistant TMR sticks from Gulikit, a revised D-pad and quieter, more precise shoulder buttons. Asus also says a redesigned cooling system should reduce surface temperatures during use.
Another new feature is a microSD Express slot. This allows faster transfer speeds than standard microSD cards and brings the device closer to newer handheld gaming hardware.
ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Bundle
The most notable sales detail is that Asus does not currently plan to sell the handheld on its own at launch. The ROG Xbox Ally X20 will be offered as a bundle with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 AR glasses.
The AR glasses are described as offering a virtual image of up to 171 inches and refresh rates of up to 240 Hz. This bundle approach may make the package more attractive to users interested in AR gaming, but it could also affect price and accessibility for buyers who only want the handheld.
Price and Release Date
Asus has not announced the price of the ROG Xbox Ally X20. The company plans to release the bundle in the second half of 2026.
The device is aimed at players who want a portable Windows gaming PC with an OLED screen, updated controls and AR glasses support. For users looking for a lower-cost handheld without extra accessories, the bundle-only launch may be an important limitation.
